The Nigerian journalists have been thrown into mourning following the death of the New Telegraph Saturday Editor, Mr Waheed Bakare, who returned to his Creator, Allah, on Sunday, May 24, 2020.
Muslim News learnt that Mr Bakare, a devout Muslim died on Sunday evening, after a brief illness.
He was an active member of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), an umbrella body for the Nigerian Muslims in the media profession.
Mr Bakare was formally with The Punch before switching to the New Telegraph newspaper, where he acted as the Saturday editor, until his death.
The late Bakare was a regular face on Television Continental (TVC)’s award winning show, Journalists’ Hangout.
According to his brother, Bakare succumbed to an illness he battled in the last two weeks.
He said his janazah (funeral) may hold today (Monday) in accordance to Islamic right.
Innalilahi wahinaahilayheen raajihuun, I pray may Allah grant our brother aljanaatul firdausii.
I pray Allah to be merciful to him with Alhaja Firdaus. May Allah comfort his family, relatives, friends and the Muslim Ummah.
Death..surely is very close.
