Remember Zaira Wasim? That young and beautiful Muslimah who announced her intention to quit Bollywood in June 2019 because it was interfering with her relationship with Allah, and her faith, Islam? Yes, she is in the news again and according to many Hindi media outlets, the ‘Secret Superstar’ actress has reportedly deactivated her verified Instagram @zairawasim_ and Twitter @ZairaWasimmm accounts after posting a Qur’anic verse on locust attack.
Muslim News Islamtainment gist revealed that several India states such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh have been worst hit by locust attack which has affected cotton crops and vegetables. But in her tweet, Zaira shared a beautiful recitation of surah A’raf, which was translated to English. Allah says:
“So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self explained: but they were steeped in arrogance- a people given to sin” – Qur’an 7:133

The 19 year old Muslimah was then targeted for her tweet by a number of social media users. They seemed to infer from her tweet that she was justifying the locust attack on India as the wrath of God. One post on Twitter read;
“I like Zaira Wasim. But this is dumb and in bad taste. People are suffering becoz of locusts, floods, covid. She’s implying that this is ‘divine punishment.”
Muslim News Islamtainment checks however revealed that the actress neither deleted the post nor her accounts on Twitter and Instagram. She only deactivated her Twitter handle, which has since been reactivated.
When asked by a user why she deactivated her account, Zaira said, “Because I’m just a human, like everyone else, who’s allowed to take a break from everything whenever the noise inside my head or around me reaches it’s peak.”

However, many Muslim netizens have came to her defence. “Nothing is wrong in this tweet she wrote it right, all things happen only with permission of God whether it’s a punishment or etc. He can kill or do any miracle, He can do anything He wants cause it’s not our world it’s His, we are here just for some years not forever,” read a tweet.

"The World is coming to an end people! Did you see the locusts, the earthquakes, the viruses and all those forest fires? It's a sign that our greed is killing the planet! All these corporations are murdering us!"
