Authority of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) has approved the use of shoulder-length Hijab for its Muslim health attendants.
The approval came in response to the earlier letter written by the Chairman of the institution’s Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) in February, 2020 requesting for the wearing of the Hijab by its members.
The approval dated 15th June, 2020, signed for the Director of Administration by Mrs Gbenga-Odumeru M. A. reads, “I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 24th February, 2020 on the above subject and inform you that the Hospital Management has approved the wearing of shoulder-length Hijab by the Muslim Health Attendants in the Hospital.
“The wearing of the shoulder-length Hijab should be with modesty and conform with the colour of their uniform,” it reads.
Speaking on, she noted that “However, those working in critical areas (i.e. Theatres, Intensive Care Units, Renal Dialysis and Neonatal Ward are to wear the approved attire in the Units while those in the unit like Infection Control and Accident and Emergency ward should tuck in their shoulder-length Hijab when they are on the wards for safety purposes.
“We hope your Association will not abuse this concession as promised,” she added.
