The National President of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) Alhaji AbdulRahman Balogun has recovered from the deadly COVID-19 after battling with it for three straight weeks, noting that whoever denies the existence of the pandemic is like one denying the hereafter.
Alhaji Balogun’s recovery journey is one of hope, struggle and devotion, as the coronavirus pandemic has fallen both the high and the low in Nigeria.
Muslim News learnt that his travails with the novel Corona virus started with Malaria symptoms before he undertook the test and it was confirmed that it was indeed COVID-19.
Malaria drugs were administered on him, but not yielding the expected results. He was moved to the National Hospital Abuja where further diagnoses were made and he tested positive for Acute Pneumonia.
Alhaji Balogun was administered with medications, but succour was not coming forth.
At this stage, he was placed on oxygen and finally tested positive for the deadly COVID 19.
He was on oxygen for two weeks at the National Hospital, Abuja where he struggled for survival.
He told I-Media News TV that the virus struck his system, made him very weak, losing his sense of taste and ability to breathe normally, slowly but steadily.
He described the breathing difficulty shacked with COVID-19 as irksome and discomforting. He maintained that it is something one shouldn’t wish for his most detested enemy.
When asked about those in denial of the existence of the virus, he said;
“I can only liken it with the denial of the hereafter, no matter how sound your argument is, someone in denial of its existence won’t be convinced, they will only believe when it happens to them or someone close to them.”
Our findings show that at the beginning of the pandemic in Abuja, Alhaji Balogun moderated the press briefing organised by the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) led by its Deputy Secretary, Prof. Salisu Shehu, where precautionary measures were dished out to all Muslim faithful.
However, Alhaji Balogun’s influence and purpose was not just felt by Muslims alone, but also Nigerians in Diaspora as he serves as the Special Adviser to the Chairman of Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri Erewa.
Observers were surprised that the public relations guru who sought the safety of Nigerians both home and abroad would also fall into the unsafe hands of the monstrous COVID 19.
After weeks of back and forth struggle for survival, Mr Balogun was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, July 7 after he recovered from the disease and his result came back negative.
A delighted Alhaji Balogun was full of praises, extending words of appreciation to those who stood by him physically and spiritually during his most trying times.
He thanked Allah for making him scale through, while acknowledging the unflappable support and assistance from various well meaning individuals and associations.
