SULTAN of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Muslims across the country to look out for the new moon of Dhul Hijjah (Islamic 12th month) 1441 AH as from today (July 21), the equivalent of 29th day of Dhul Qadah 1441 AH.
The new moon of Dhul Hijjah 1441 will determine the day of Eid-al-Adha festivity (on the 10th day of the month) after the observance of the Mount Arafat religious rights in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement on Monday by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultan advised Muslims to report the sighting of the new moon to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.
“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking it for the new moon of Dhul Hijjah 1441 AH on Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement said.
