The Fourteenth Moon Foundation has distributed camel, cows, and rams to needy Muslims in Lagos State.
The distribution, which was held in three locations, saw Muslims come out in their large numbers to receive meats.
After the animals were killed, the meats were distributed to no fewer than 500 families in Kosofe, Somolu, Bariga, Yaba, and Lagos Mainland on Saturday, August 1.
According to the founder of the foundation, Qasim Badrudeen, the distribution was supposed to hold in all councils in Lagos State. He however regretted that the foundation had to pick five councils for the distribution due to lack of funds.
He noted that the programme titled ‘Eat The Ram’ was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of needy Muslims during Sallah.
During the distribution, Badrudeen counselled the beneficiaries not to misuse the meats given to them.
He also commended the donors for making the 2020 distribution a possibility.
The FMF Founder said, “We are doing this in the tradition of reaching out to the needy among the Muslim ummah. What we do is to seek support from people to assist others with meat to eat on Sallah day. It is a way of supporting those who don’t have so that they too can enjoy the celebrations.
“We appreciate our donors who consider this a worthy initiative to invest in. This is a social responsibility that is highly rewarding in the face of Allah.
“There is no better time to cater for the less privileged persons than at a time like this when the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the livelihood of many families.
“We urge other well-to-do people, as well as those with sufficient means of income to always contribute to helping indigent persons”.
The beneficiaries, who were delighted with the donation also thanked the donors and the foundation for reaching out to them.
Apart from the ‘Eat The Ram’ initiative, Badrudeen explained that the foundation also has other social and welfare programmes.
Among the programmes, he listed, are Widow Support, Youth Empowerment, Education Support, Ramadan Package and Street Feeding.
“Every Ramadan, indigent Muslims around the world find it difficult to fast. We provide food materials and financial support for Muslims during this period.
“We also Identify indigent brilliant Muslims who find it difficult to further their academics due to financial challenge. With support from donors, the NGO provide stipends and school fees.”
