France on Sunday urged Arab countries to stop calls for boycott of French products.
“These calls for boycotts and attacks on our country pushed by a radical minority are baseless and must be stopped immediately,” French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll said in a statement.
Earlier, several Arab trade groups announced their boycott of French products in response to statements against Islam and over republication of caricatures insulting Prophet Muhammad.
In recent weeks, French President Emmanuel Macron attacked Islam and the Muslim community, accusing Muslims of “separatism”. He described Islam as a “a religion in crisis all over the world”.
This coincided with a provocative move by Charlie Hebdo, a left-wing French magazine infamous for publishing anti-Islamic caricatures, which have drawn widespread anger and outrage across the Muslim world.
Last month, the magazine republished caricatures insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.
The caricatures were first published in 2006 by a Danish newspaper Jylllands Posten, sparking a wave of protests.

I dont blame some of these western countries esoecialky France which has turned out to be both a human and cultural tragedy. By the time the economic pressure is mounted on them, may be they will come to learn what it is to be civil. And as for their President, Macron, I volunteer to pay his bill for checking himself for mental sanity as advised by President Erdoğan provided he will come to Aro here in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
When the caricature was first published in 2006, their was a call for boycott of danish products across the Muslim world, it will amount to selctive justice if Muslims do otherwise this time around.
Moreso, Muslims are not in minority, “manu” should be smart enough to understand that any attempt to deride the Muslims and the personality of the noble Prophet does not anger the french Muslims alone but a global population that transcent race and geographic boundaries.
I urge Muslims in Nigeria to follow order by Arab Muslims for boycott of French products. It is clear that insulting our respected Prophet Muhammad will not end until decisive measures are taken. Apologies shall no longer be enough. What Muslims should require is a written undertaking that perpetrators will be brought to book and punished by such country that the insult emanate. Boycott should continue until positive result is achieved. With our population we Muslims have the strength to course economic crisis not only to France but to the so called superpowers.
Let us rally round well meaning leaders in the Islamic countries, by patronising their products.Afterall what stops Muslim states from forming an economic front?
