‘The Iqraa Challenge’: Muslim group organises contest to revive reading culture among students

In a bid to revive the dwindling reading culture among students, the Standard Bearers Islamic Organization of Nigeria in conjunction with Students Network International has launched a program tagged: “The Iqraa Challenge”, for students in Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states.

The Competition, with the theme; ‘Islam and Economic Empowerment’ is expected to run virtually, between Wednesday, January 20 and Saturday, March, 20, 2021

In a statement signed by the programme Coordinator, Luqman Isa, the Muslim body views education as a catalyst for self-employment and poverty reduction.

According to the statement, prospective applicants will engage in three varying assignments which includes writing of term paper, composing a short note on a book on Islamic Jurisprudence and partake in Qur’an memorization test.

“Resource materials of the programme which will run between 20th January and 20th March, 2021 could be accessed via the Standard Bearers e-library on sblibrarypack@gmail.com. The prospective candidates are also expected to download the PDF file attached to the online flyer for full details of the program”, he added.

The statement added that the maiden edition of the Iqraa Challenge will afford the candidates to unleash their reading and writing experiences.

Also speaking, the Coordinator, Standard Bearers, Ile-Ife District, Hassan Abdulfatai explained that highly resourceful panel of judges have been assembled from both within and outside Nigeria to add splendor to the program.

The judges include Dr Luqman Abdurraheem, an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship, Dr Abdulhakeem Ogunmuyiwa of Juhail Institute, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as Experts on Shari’ah from the prestigious Azhaar University, Cairo, Egypt amongst others.

Mr AbdulFatai said the program which has an Arabic version is opened to students of higher institutions from Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states.

“An Arabic version of the program has also been launched for Arabic Literate Students and Students of ‘Madrasahs’ across the three states with mouth-watering prizes awaiting successful candidates”, he said.

Mr AbdulFatai stressed that the program will bring back the reading and writing culture known with Islamic civilization across ages.
