Philippines declares Feb 1st National Hijab Day, as #WHD2021 trends on Twitter

Twitter on Monday flooded with numerous posts citing the importance of ‘Hijab’ on account of World Hijab Day 2021.

With hashtag #WorldHijabDay2021, twitter users celebrate the day describing the beauty and grace of Hijab in their posts.

We stand in solidarity with those being forced to give up their choice of clothing. #WorldHijabDay

World Hijab Day is an annual event that takes place on 1 February each year in 140 countries worldwide.

Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab.

My Hijab always makes me feel safer. This hijab will not affect my freedom in any way. I will always be proud of my Hijab”…🦋🌸💫#WorldHijabDay 🧕 pic.twitter.com/nXNtfKAIqx

The tag line for World Hijab Day 2021 is, “Don’t let our pride be your prejudice”.

On the other hand, the Philippines House of Representatives has approved a bill declaring the first day of February as National Hijab Day every year to promote a “deeper understanding” of the Muslim practice, as well as tolerance for other faiths across the country.

Congress unanimously approved the bill, which has yet to become a law, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, with all 203 lawmakers voting for the move.

Anak Mindanao party-list Representative Amihilda Sangcopan, principal author and sponsor of House Bill No. 8249, thanked all lawmakers for passing the legislation and called on members of the Senate to espouse a counterpart measure.

Dear February, Happy World Hijab Day! #WorldHijabDay #february1st pic.twitter.com/SNKmWS6KAj

The bill seeks to promote a greater understanding among non-Muslims about the practice and “value of wearing the hijab as an act of modesty and dignity to Muslim women” and encourage Muslim and non-Muslim women “to experience the virtue of wearing it.”

On this #WorldHijabDay we must remember&stand with Uyghur Muslim women who r routinely checked by CCP officials to make sure they aren't wearing the Hijab or wearing long dresses.
