World Water Day 2021: FOMWAN Commissions borehole project at Itele, Otta community

In its bid to make water available to rural communities, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, Alimosho chapter, Lagos State has commissioned a borehole project in Itele, Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The official presentation of the borehole was done on Monday, March 22, to mark the 2021 World Water Day, aimed at raising awareness about the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water resources globally.

The Amirah, Alhaja Sherifat Alaba Bamidele, who led her executives and members to the unveiling, was warmly received by the community, including the Baale (Community Head), Chief Abdul Azeez Ajiboye, and his chiefs.

Speaking with Muslim News, Alhaja Bamidele said the Borehole Project was initiated in May 2019 as a means of production of bottled and packaged (sachet) water business for generating funds into the Association’s purse to cater for running cost.

She expressed appreciation to one of the Association’s patron and Patroness, Alhaji (Hon.) and Alhaja Bisi Yussuf for donating the land during their 2019 Ramadan family prayer.

The Amirah (Female Head) who was full of joy for the successful completion of the project also thanked another Patron, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Ajulo for sinking the Borehole and later donated it to FOMWAN.

Speaking further, Alhaja Bamidele said the focus and the intention behind the project changed after receiving a message from the National Amira, Alhaja Halimah Jubril.

According to her, “In early March 2021, the National Leadership of FOMWAN sent messages to State chapters that each LGA should present a Borehole Project for Commissioning to mark the World Water Day Celebration on March 22nd, 2021. That’s why we decided to donate the borehole to the Itale community. This, we believe, will ease the challenge of access to water.”

Alhaja Bamidele showered appreciation to Almighty Allah, the donors of the land, and the borehole, also mentioning his mentors, Alhaja Sidikat Binuyo, Alhaja Fatimah Abdu-Salam, Alhaja Khaerat Jabbar, and Alhaja Serifat Ajagbe for their motherly advice, encouragement, and support from the inception of the administration about three years ago.

He continued, saying, “Also the State Representatives: Alhaja Ramotallah Ogunmuyiwa; State Elder, Alhaja Fausat Balogun. My special appreciation goes to The Baale of Itele Ota, Chief Azeez Ajiboye, Chief Alhaji Nojimu Ojubanire, Chief Mrs. Agoro, Iya lake of Itele Ota, and all members of the community that graced the commissioning.”

‘I appreciate the Dawah Officers and all FOMWAN members in Alimosho LGA. May Allah bless and protect them all. Amiin. We also thank our other Patrons, also our Patronesses: Alhaja Chief. Kudirat A.Awopeju, Alhaja S. Bolarinwa, Alhaja H. Momoh, and others. Lastly, l thank my husband, and children for their supportive efforts towards my stewardship. Alihamdulillah!!!’.
