The recipient of ‘Nigeria Muslim Health Person of the Year 2020,’ Dr Saliu Oyelami has officially flagged off a medical advocacy programme in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The medical advocacy is a joint initiative of Shifauk Hospital in Akure and Aroleorisun Medical Mission, Okua in Odo-Otin, Osun State, aimed at contributing to the development of healthcare services across the country.
The awareness kicked-off with a visit to the Chief Imam of Akure, Sheikh AbdulHakeem Yayi-Akorede on Tuesday, June 29.
Dr Oyelami said the initiative is one of the ongoing nationwide Aroleorisun health advocacy aimed at visiting influential Nigerians, including Muslim and non-Muslim leaders.
The advocacy is coordinated by Professor Isa Baba of University of llorin, who is the chairman of its National Organising Committee.
Dr. Oyelami, who is currently the National Vice President II of Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), emerged the winner of the ‘Nigeria Muslim Health Person of the Year’ Award category, having distinguished himself as an Ambassador of Islam with a history of selflessness and sacrifice in healthcare delivery, especially in Ondo, Osun and Kwara states.
In an Interview with Muslim News, Dr Oyelami unveiled the initiative behind the programme and further plans.
According to him, “Shifauk Hospital in Akure and Aroleorisun Medical Mission collaborated to do some health awareness and community development programmes. Part of the people we are visiting is the Chief Imam of Akure, some Imams and other dignitaries outside religious circle.
“When we got to the Imam (on Wednesday), we were talking about Muslims’ active involvement in development programmes wherever we are and we told him that this mission is part of our efforts. He was very happy and was willing to support us.
“He advised us, noting that our presence is very important, which we assured him we will continue to put our best.” he noted.
The atmosphere at the Chief Imam of Akure’s office was filled with happiness and joy over the initiative and prayed for the team’s success and progress.
In the team’s entourage were the Head of Hospital Service, Mrs Oluwatoyin Musbau; Hospital Admin Secretary, Mrs Habibah Musa; Technical Assistant, Alh Adeki and Mr Isiak Omoola.
