Complete Sports Boss, Mumini Alao Bags PhD In Mass Communication, at UNILAG’s 51st Convocation

The Group Managing Director of Complete Communications Limited (CCL), Alhaji Mumini Alao has bagged a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, after he successfully completed the advanced academic study.

Alao, a devout Muslim, was among the 148 students who were awarded Doctorate Degrees during a colourful 51st convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos on Thursday, July 8, 2021.

His doctorate thesis: ‘Influence of Audience Preference on Media Coverage of Domestic and Foreign Football in Nigeria’ is spot-on, with thorough investigation and far-reaching findings concerning the intriguing slants of the country’s mass media in satisfying the football-loving Nigerian fans.

Dr. Alao, while speaking with Muslim News, thanked Allah, adding that it feels great to bag a PhD degree at the prestigious University of Lagos.

According to him, “Alhamdulillah Robil Aalamin, I feel great. I give all glory to Allah for sparing my life and assisting me to complete the PhD programme. This, I don’t take for granted because not all my classmates that we started together were able to finish and, on the day of my graduation, we were also mourning the death of an In-law. May Allah admit him to Aljanat Firdaos. Ameen.”

Describing his PhD journey, the Nigeria’s sports guru, said, “At the start of the programme, one of my friends in academia told me, ‘welcome to rigour.’ He was right. Pursuing a doctorate is not for lazy people. It’s a rigorous endeavour.

“The journey was rough and tough and, to be honest, I nearly quit at some stage. But then, Allah brought helpers who cleared the obstacles in my path. I say JazakummuLlahu khair to them,” he added.

Dr. Alao has made great impact in Nigerian sports with his articles and column as a print journalist for Complete Football magazine and Complete Sports daily newspaper. He is also versed as a broadcast journalist and as an author.

The UNILAG convocation ceremony also witnessed four honorary doctorate degrees awarded to Dr. Biodun Shobanjo; Alhaji Mohammadu Indimi, OFR; Sir. Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu and Dr. Ameyo Stella-Adedevoh (post-humous).

Dr. Alao, a veteran Sports journalist in Nigeria, obtained his bachelor’s and master’s Degrees in Mass Communication also from the University of Lagos in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
