The Nigeria Super Eagles and Turkish Club Fatih Karagumruk forward, Ahmed Musa is set to record another milestone in the football history of his home country as he eyes 100 caps if he features in the game against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.
The Super Eagles captain led the team to Cape Verde on Monday in preparation for the second round Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, slated for 5pm Nigerian time.
Muslim News Sports correspondent revealed that if he is included in the line-up for Gernot Rohr’s squad in the crucial game, the Nigerian skipper, famously known for observing a sujood (prostration of gratitude) whenever he scores a goal, will earn his 100th cap for the Super Eagles, making him the third player to reach that milestone in the history of Nigerian football.
It would be recalled that former Super Eagles defender, Joseph Yobo and goalie, Vincent Enyeama are the most capped with 101 appearances respectively, which they earned over 13 years after their debut.
The two former National team captains, Yobo and Enyeama achieved the milestone in 2014 and 2015 respectively who were aged 33 and 31 at the time they announced their retirement from international football.
But Musa, who is described as the fastest and youngest to achieve this feat, as he will be doing so at the age of 28, eleven years after his debut for the Nigeria Super Eagles.
Pundits believe that Musa, who displayed excellent performance and scored his first goal in his Turkish side, Fatih Karagumruk’s 3-2 victory against Gaziantep in August will soon surpass his predecessors’ record in no distant time with just two games.
Musa, a philanthropist and role model to many youths was named Nigerian Muslim Celebrity of the Year 2020 by this medium. He has been a regular for the Super Eagles, featuring in two World Cups and two Nations Cups, since breaking into the senior national team in September 2010.
He is expected to attend the Muslim News Awards presentation with his entourage at a hybrid event slated for Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria.
