As the world marks the 2021 Mawlidun Nabiyy, Muslims across the world have been admonished to imbibe the character and teachings of the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
They were also charged to utilise the commandments from the Qur’an and work to avoid their religion being questioned by others.
This came from the Mudir of Markaz Ta’alimul Arabiyyah, Agege, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory at the occasion to mark the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in Egbeda, Lagos State.
The event, first of its kind, was hosted by the Elegbeda of Egbeda kingdom, Oba Hammed Aremu Kareem-Laka, and had scholars and groups in the kingdom in attendance.
In his words, Sheikh Habeebullah Al-Ilory, represented by Professor Tajudeen Alayinde, said: “As Muslims, we should emulate Prophet Muhammad in all aspects of his life. He is our teacher and he is who Allah has used to guide us. He was just, kind, obedient, friendly, trustworthy and many other attributes he had.
“His good character earned him the title of Al-Amin (The Trustworthy) in the city of Makkah. This title was given to him by the Makkans, who as at that time were not Muslims yet, neither was he a prophet then. He was kind to them and they bestowed their property to him, with certainty of not breaking or going against the trust bestowed on him.
“The character of the Prophet is the Qur’an. This means that if we are also going to emulate the prophet, then we should submit to the commandments and prohibitions of the Allah in the Qur’an. We should ensure our characters do not contradict the Qur’an and sunnah of the Prophet, such that our religion will be questioned.
He further called for the unity of the ummah and extension of goodness to non-muslims, as the prophet did during his time.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Jelil Sulaimon extended his heartfelt joy for the efforts put in place by the Elegbeda of Egbeda kingdom to ensure the unity of all in the community.
“We are happy with the initiative of the Elegbeda of Egbeda kingdom. This clearly shows his dedication to the unity of all in his kingdom and this will assist us too, in discharging our roles and responsibilities. I never expected this much population, I must say. I’m really impressed and I declare my support for this initiative”, he noted.
Dignitaries present included the Chief Imam of Egbeda kingdom, Sheikh Musa Busayri, Chief Imam Labeeb Adeboye, Onishangisha of Shangisha; Amirah, Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) Alimosho, Hajiah Sherifah Bamidele; Chairman, planning committee, Chief Imam Abdullah Akinlawon Olore, palace chiefs and a host of other scholars.
In an exclusive chat with Muslim News, the Amirah of FOMWAN, Alimosho Branch, Hajiah Sherifah Bamidele, who lauded the initiative, appealed to residents and all to live in peace and unity with one another.
“The initiative was actually brainned by the king of the land, HRH Alh. Abdhamid Omogoriola Orelope Laka. It is highly commendable, being a landmark in the land (EGBEDA), as all indigenes and non-indigenes gathered to celebrate the birth of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in one voice, mind and vision, under one umbrella of Elegbeda of Egbeda kingdom. It is to bring all the Muslims in the land together, with love and peaceful co-existence.
“I will advice every single soul, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, to go through the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), follow his thoughts and steps, our lives will be completed without contour and you will be a perfect human being to your families, environment, state and nation at large. May Allah continue to bless the soul of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)”, she concluded.
