The Criterion (an association of Muslim women in business and the professions) commenced its 2nd International and 11th Biennial Conference on Thursday, November 18 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The week-long conference, expected to end on Wednesday, November 24 is aimed at addressing the challenges bedeviling women in the society and proffering possible solutions.
Muslim News findings revealed that the event, tagged ‘Oluyole 2021’ will also tackle assault and abuse against Muslim women and coping with financial stress.
The event will hold at Imam Maliki College, Jegede Olunloyo, Ibadan with the opening ceremony slated for Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque Event Hall.
The host, The National Ameerah, The Criterion, Hajia Fatimah Yewande Oyefeso, said the conference is an avenue to discuss the challenges bedeviling women in the society and proffer possible solutions.
According to her, the theme of the conference, ‘The new Realities – Roles and Challenges of Muslim Women’ is apt based on the trendy issues in the society regarding abuse, inequality and harsh treatments unleashed on Muslim women.
She noted that the key speaker is Prof. Hafiz Oladosu of the Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan.
The Keynote discussants, Prof. Teslim Ayobami Ahmed of the Department of Guidance and Counseling, University of Ibadan would deliver a paper on ‘Tackling Assault Abuse in Women and Children’ and Dr. Muritala Kewuyemi Kareem of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan will deliver a paper on coping with family finances in the new reality.
Other activities include Asalatu Lectures on parenting values and ethics in the new reality.
Also, there will be lectures for school children on Cyberspace and tackling drug abuse among adolescents and women.
The royal father of the day is his Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, NSCIA.
The Chairperson of the day is Bar. Abdul Hakeem Agbaje while the Co-Chairman is Alhaji Jumat Babatunde Ali Oluwafuyi.
