I FEEL FULFILLED: Muslim lady, Waliyat Ayandiran-Adelodun graduates with first class at KWASU

At a time when there are renewed molestation and victimization of Muslim female students on Hijab in various schools in the southwestern part of Nigeria, the Hijab-wearing Muslim ladies have continued to defy all odds in breaking grounds and coming tops in their academic endeavors.

These developments have put paid to perceptions in some quarters that the Hijab serves as a hindrance to ladies or makes them different, Muslim News reports.

The latest in the series of Hijabis that have done Islam proud with their outstanding academic feats is Mrs Waliyat Ayandiran-Adelodun, who just bagged a first class honours at the Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State.

Mrs. Ayandiran-Adelodun, who studied Library and Information Science, also finished as the second best graduating student of her department.

She is happily married to Mr. Abdul Lateef Adelodun, who is also a Librarian/Information Scientist by profession, with beautiful children.

Ayandiran was part of the few exceptional graduating students admitted into the venue of the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies held at the Mini Convocation Arena, KWASU on Friday, December 10.

In a short interview with Muslim News, the elated Hijabi, who hails from Osogbo, Osun State said she felt indeed fulfilled with the achievement.

According to her, Muslim ladies are usually underrated when it comes to academics by non-Muslims and so her feat just like that of many others in recent times will put a stop to that wrong perception of Muslim ladies on Hijab.

She also stated that taking a 2-year degree programme at KWASU was dictated by the HND/BSc dichotomy witnessed in the country, as she had earlier bagged a Higher National Diploma at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State in Library and Information Science.

Mrs Ayandiran-Adelodun

According to her, “I finished my primary education at Dopemu Primary School, Agege, Lagos State in 1996. I went further for a secondary education at St. Joseph Secondary School, Idi-Mangoro, Agege, Lagos. After my secondary education in 2003, I gained admission to the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State where I did both my ND and HND programmes with lower and upper classes respectively.

“I faced discriminations in view of the dichotomy between HND and BSc. This prompted me to put in for the HND conversion programme in KWASU which led to today’s success story as one of the first class graduates in such a reputable school,” Mrs. Ayandiran-Adelodun said.

“Achieving the feat was a tremendous task and indeed one of the greatest challenges I’ve had to face. It was all by the grace of the Almighty Allah. Alhamdulilah!”

She posited that Hijabis deserve to be respected in the society, adding that harassing them in the name of religious sentiments must stop.
