One of the branches of the Muslim Congress (TMC) in Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA of Lagos has been named the most peaceful organisation of the year 2021.
The organisation was presented with the award by the Chief Imam Raji Ajani Mahmoud, who coincidentally is the Chairman of Agbado Oke Odo Council of Chief Imams for preaching and promoting peace among different Muslims organisations in the community.
Muslim News gathered that the Al-Muminaat branch of Alimosho Local Government Area of the State was also honoured at the well-attended event held at the Ikola Central Mosque.
Al-Muminaat (the believing Muslim women organisation) was rewarded by the community for their weekly mosque cleaning exercises, which have been going on over the years.
In a chat with Muslim News on Tuesday, Mal. Taofeek Rufai, the Roqib of the TMC branch said, “We really appreciate the community for finding us worthy of this award. It’s a result of the cordial relationship we have built over the years with the community and other Muslim organisations.
According to him, “When we got the invitation to receive the award, we were really happy, even though we weren’t expecting it. The Chief Imam is our father. He has been attending our laudable programmes with members of the community over the years. They extol our mode of operation and the way we relate with other organisations without discrimination.”
Speaking on the activities of TMC, the Roqib said, “As an organisation, with members in different states of the federation and at local levels, we have series of educating and soul-inspiring programmes.
“In fact, we believe in collaboration with other Muslim organisations. That’s why we collaborated with other Muslim bodies to hold a public lecture. The Imam attended, together with notable personalities. In fact, more organisations have started showing interest.
“There was a time we held khuruj programme in the community, where we visited different local and central mosques in the community to preach the universal message of Islam. They really appreciated us as an organisation. These are some of the things we do.”
Mal. Rufai emphasised the need for Muslim organisations to unite and work together to liberate the world from darkness to light and falsehood to truth.
“It is high time we united. We can’t practice Islam in isolation. We need to relate with other like minds and work together for the progress of Islam in our immediate community. We should learn to accommodate one another because we have a responsibility of liberating the world from darkness to light,” he noted.
Also speaking, the Amirah of Al-Muminaat Alimosho branch, Hajiah Akinyele Sherifa, who was excited about the ‘mosque cleaning’ award bestowed on the organisation said, “We thank Allah for the award. We appreciate the organisers. The community appreciates us for the mosque cleaning which we do every Friday. We clean the mosque toilets and its surroundings and we’re glad they bestowed on us this award. Alhamdulillah.
“We didn’t see it coming because we are doing this because of Allah not to be rewarded. But, if an award comes with it, we will take it and that will push us to do more for the Ummah. Cleaning the house of Allah is highly rewarding in the sight of Allah,” she added.
