Ramadan 2022: TMC felicitates Muslim Ummah, preaches compassion, empathy

One of Nigeria’s leading faith-based organisations, The Muslim Congress (TMC) has rejoiced with the Muslim ummah in Nigeria and across the globe on the successful commencement of the glorious month of Ramadan 1443AH (2022).

In the press release signed by its Amir (President), Alhaji AbdulWasi’ Taiwo Bangbala, the organisation called on Muslims to imbibe the lesson of compassion, empathy, and togetherness taught by fasting in Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

According to Alhaji Bangbala, “Ramadan evokes the virtues of worship and the loftiest values of the Islamic faith, including acts of goodness, tolerance, giving, humility and individual sense of responsibility towards others and the society at large.

“Therefore, in the euphoria of the arrival of the blessed month, we are enjoined to celebrate the strong sense of community as we converge in community spaces and congregate in mosques to engage in spiritually-edifying activities with neighbours and the wider community.

“Muslims and non-Muslims, in the spirit of the season, must endeavour to nurture family warmth, mutual care, and cordiality in the face of religious and cultural diversity. Togetherness and strengthening of faith in the company of others have always been a key part of Ramadan.

“It is therefore imperative that whilst the faithful savour the spiritual benefits of the blessed month, the less fortunate members of the society must be adequately catered for and be given a sense of belonging.”

Speaking on, he said “This auspicious season is a stark reminder and renewal of our most precious, shared values of compassion, sacrifice, and empathy for others. This renewal must therefore bring about real and practical improvements in the way and manner we relate with one another so as to show our deep desire and commitment to the happiness and joy of each individual. It is in respect of these shared values that our thoughts go to the victims of the recent tragic events in the country, especially the terrorist attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train.

“These are some of the tragedies that Ramadan comes to prevent when we truly imbibe its values and teachings irrespective of our different religious inclinations. This Ramadan brings us renewed hope and confidence that we shall overcome our challenges as a people and we will march on to a safe, peaceful, prosperous, and secured nation. We commiserate with all the victims and members of their families on the irreparable losses.”

He further enjoined all Muslims to maximize the benefits of this Ramadan, shun time-wasting and rededicate their souls to the worship of Allah while showing utmost kindness to their fellow brethren.
