Despite the economic hardship in the country, a non-governmental organisation, New Crescent Charity, has distributed food items to no fewer than 300 widows and other indigent Muslims.
The distribution exercise tagged ‘1443/2022 Ramadan Feeding Project’ was held on Sunday at different locations – Ejigbo, Isolo, Mushin, and Oshodi areas of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
Muslim News gathered that the food items containing rice, beans, garri, custard, sugar, noodles, and oil, sum up to ₦28,000 per pack.
The foundation’s Coordinator, Dr. Sulaiman Ogunmuyiwa, who led his team to the Nawar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, the venue of the distribution in Oshodi, said the rationale was to give back to the society.
“Our Foundation started this programme last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. We supported petty traders with cash and vocational equipment worth over Three Million Naira to improve their businesses. We also had a seminar on how to keep records.
“This year, we are targeting the widows and other indigent Muslims. We have food parcels for them containing rice, beans, garri, custard, sugar, and oil, which sums up to ₦28,000 per pack. Our motivation is to give back to the society as we know things are hard and we look for a way to ameliorate the situation”, he noted.
The beneficiaries could not hide their excitement during their interaction with Muslim News, and they showered prayers on the Charity Foundation, an organ of New Crescent International Travels, one of the major players in the hajj and umrah sector.
One of the beneficiaries, Ustadh Aqib Salaudeen noted, “We appreciate them for this benevolent act, which is being held at a crucial time. We thank them and the brain behind it. May Allah reward them abundantly”.
Another beneficiary, Alhaja Mulikat Adebayo said “I’m proud of Islam through what they have done, particularly in this Ramadan season. Only Allah can reward them. I pray Allah to bless them beyond their comprehension”.
