Prof Mahfouz Adedimeji, the Vice Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University (APU), Kwara, has pledged continuous positive service to humanity through excellence in service delivery.
Adedimeji made the promise on Saturday in Ilorin on the sidelines of the official presentation of the book: “The Meteoric Rise of a Dynamic Academic”, in honour of Adedimeji.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event is a public presentation of a compendium as well as official unveiling of Adedimeji’s book, entitled: “Doses of Grammar”.
The don acknowledged that the compendium on him was compiled by his former students.
He appreciated their effort in eulogising him and asserted that the eulogy is a wake-up call to give more to humanity.
“I was emotional when I was making my presentation because I was just doing my own thing, only for them to come back years to compile articles.
“However, I believe that compliments are just to be smelled and not to be swallowed.
So I’m not going to allow anything that is said to really go to my head.
“This eulogy is an additional challenge; people are paying attention to whatever you’re doing.
So this calls for me to continue to be a better version of myself and continue to do more,” he said.
Earlier in his book review, Prof. Lukman Azeez, the Dean of the College of Communications and Information Science, University of Ilorin, observed that the compilation of the compendium consist of 42 articles.
He explained that each of the articles are constituted by the students of Adedimeji, as well as some of his acquaintances that he grew up with and had personal relationship with.
Azeez described the APU vice chancellor as humble, humane and compassionate, adding that Adedimeji is a mentor to many.
According to him, the book eulogises the vice chancellor as a gifted scholar, great intellectual and a moral compass, among others virtues.
“What strike me most is that some of the contributors to the articles and former students are not Muslims but adherents of other religions,” he said.
Azeez pointed out that the merit of the compendium is to ensure, motivate and aspire people to imbibe the exemplary character and the epitome of what is called Islam.
Also speaking, Prof. Razaq Abubakre, the former Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, noted that the compendium explained the nature of Adedimeji, whom he described as an epitome of humility, dexterity, dignity and candour.
