One of Nigeria’s leading Islamic organisations, The Muslim Congress (TMC), Lagos State Chapter, has conferred ‘Muslim Media Ambassador’ award on Publisher of Muslim News, Alhaji Rasheed Abubakar and The Nation’s Head of Religious beat (Islam)/Head of Motoring Desk, Alhaji Tajudeen Adebanjo.
The award presentation took place on Sunday at the 15th Annual State Lecture held at the Main Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day celebration.
The two journalists were recognised for their years of outstanding and selfless services and contributions to Islam through the lens of the mass media.
They were described as vanguards of Islam in the media for championing inclusive reportage and informed narratives of the religion and its adherents.
Both Adebanjo and Abubakar were part of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Media Team at this year’s hajj.
Adebanjo, who came with his wife, Hajiah Hafsah Badru, received his award plaque from HRM, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, FCA, Ronadu of Imota, while the former Chairman of HACOPs of TMC Lagos, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Afolabi presented Abubakar’s plaque.
Both the wife of the Muslim News Publisher, Hajiah Taofeeqah AbdusSalaam and his daughter, Aisha Abubakar, were present to witness the exciting moment.
Adebanjo is the National Secretary of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria and also got re-elected as the National Public Relations officer of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) on the same day of the award.
