Class, glamour as Abdulhameed Shonubi, Fatiha Okesola wed in Lagos

I’m excited to be married to the love of my life – Groom

I cherish his care, kindness, spirituality, says Bride

Saturday, February 4, 2023 will remain indelible as Mr. and Mrs. Mikail Okesola and Mr and Magistrate (Mrs) Segun Shonubi brought family members, colleagues and friends for the aqd and walimatu-n-nikaah of their children, Fatiha Abisola and AbdulHameed Oladunjoye.

Held at the Luxury Park Event Center, MKO Abiola Gardens, Ikeja, Lagos, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, the holy solemnization was a reunion for the couple and their friends from the University of Lagos, UNILAG and Al-madrasah Mumtiah, their alma maters.

Muslim News Islamtainment gathered that the nikaah began with an introduction of the two families that were about to become one.

Bride and bridesmaids

The ceremony was held at the same venue and saw the representative of each family introduce other members of the families.

The elated couple donned sky blue and navy blue hijab and agbada, respectively for the introduction.

Groom and groomsmen

They later changed into another beautiful dress, gold and emerald green, for the aqd, solemnization to finally commence.

One of the highlights of the nuptial ceremony was the mind-blowing and grand entrance of the bride and her bridesmaids on one side, the groom and his groomsmen on the other side, as they found their way into the beautifully decorated venue, where guests, including officiating Imams and other scholars had been waiting for them.

The bride received a set of jewels as mahr (dowry).

The founder of Al-modrasah Mumtiah, Ustadh Abdulganiyy Adebisi, who officiated the Nikaah, urged the couple to be mindful of their relationship with God, adding that If they maintained a good relationship with Allah, He will fill their union with peace and bliss.

He also advised them to always communicate effectively, saying that communication is key to a healthy relationship.

According to him, “Scholars have made us understand that most marriages have problems because either or both spouses are doing something to displease Allah. That eventually leads to divorce. That’s why I am calling on today’s couple to be mindful of their relationship with Allah.

As well, they shouldn’t hide their feelings or displeasure or begrudge their partner until there is an outburst. They should endeavour to know each other’s interests, likes and dislikes because even love weakens. So, when it does, those interests and likes can be used to resuscitate it.

“They should hold their privacy in high esteem. Everyone should not know what’s going on in their marriage, especially on social media,” he noted.

In attendance also was Imam Sheriffdeen Olasunkami, Sheikh Nurudeen Jibreel Moshood Al-ketuwy, Ustadh Yunus Al-Imam, who presented the marriage certificate issued by MSSN Lagos to the couple

The couple

Muslim personalities such as Shaykh Moshood Ramadan represented by his son, Ustadh Nurudeen and the Honorable Chief Justice of Lagos, Justice Kazeem Alogba, also graced the occasion.

Sheikh Ramadan quoted an excerpt from the late Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory, who said that each spouse gets into marriage with 100% love, but once they get into it, it reduces to 50% on both ends.

Ustadh Adebisi

“If they want to indemnify the relationship, they will work together, forgiving and understanding each other”, he says.

There was more than enough food for everyone. Guests were treated to a six-course meal. There were varieties of African and continental dishes to go with non-alcoholic drinks and wines that also flowed ceaselessly.

The groom

The groom, a software engineer working for a healthcare company in California, US, while speaking with Muslim News, said, “Alhamdulillah for the success of today’s nikaah. Words cannot describe the feeling of being joined with the love of my life.”

Asked what he loved most about his wife, AbdulHameed said, “What I love most about her is her relationship with Allah. I pray that we both increase in obedience to him.”

Coupler

The elated bride, and a dedicated volunteer for Muslim News, said, “I feel happy, blessed, fulfilled, excited and proud to be married to the love of my life.

According to Fatiha, “I met him at the University of Lagos and our continued interaction was at the madrasah. We are both students at Madrasatul Mumtiah.

“I cherish his care, kindness, spirituality, self-esteem, ambition and the way he communicates how he feels with me every time and he ensures I do the same,” she noted.

The groom holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and George Washington University, US respectively.

Beautiful bride

While the wife also graduated from the University of Lagos where she studied Actuarial Science, she is currently undergoing the compulsory one-year NYSC programme at Help The Talent Academy, where she works as a Finance and HR officer.

The groom had completed his Thanawiyy, while the bride is currently undergoing hers at Al-madrasah Mumtiah, Lagos.
