The Organisation of Tadhamunul Muslimeen (OTM) has urged Muslims in Oyo State to remain calm as Governor Seyi Makinde has not rescinded his promise to hand over the reconstructed Central Mosque in Adogba to it.
The appeal was contained in a statement by Alhaji Jamiu Alim, General Secretary, OTM, where he provided the official response of the organisation on the controversies surrounding the reconstructed central mosque.
There were apprehensions from a section of the Muslim community in Oyo State when the newly reconstructed central mosque was renamed Governor Seyi Makinde Islamic Centre.
Muslim News gathered that the old structure where the mosque stood on was demolished in implementing a new bus terminal project of the administration.
As part of the understanding reached with the management of the mosque, a new and befitting structure was constructed by the government to serve as compensation.
In its release, OTM said despite hearsay, Governor Makinde has “never for a second changed his promise on handing over of the mosque to the Organization of Tadhamunul Muslimeen.”
It added that a meeting held on March 8 in the mosque premises between the Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal and a host of Imams and Alfas in Oyo State where Ustaz Abd Kabir Muhammadul Awwal was officially unveiled as the Chief Imam.
OTM noted that the attention of the government has been drawn to the renaming of the mosque and efforts are ongoing to adjust it to retain its initial identity.
“The commissioning is yet to be done and shall take place in due time,” the statement said.
“Going by the above situation reports, we therefore urge all members and the general public who are so concerned about the situation surrounding the mosque to remain calm and optimistic that Allah’s will shall prevail at last.
“However, we would urge all well-wishers to shun further reactions that is capable of worsening the situation and jeopardising the anticipated results.
“Finally, we solicit fervent prayers rather than otherwise from all and sundry to give us success in our future endeavors. Thanks to all for your concerns.”
