Hajia Ghaniyyah Sulaimon-Olokodana, the Amirah of the Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA), has returned to her Creator.
She died in the early hours of Thursday after a brief illness.
Her demise was confirmed by the organisation in a statement, which read:
“Innalillahi wa Inna ilaihi Rajihun! We announce with sadness the departure of our sister Ghaniyyah Sulaiman-Olokodana, our impactful Amirah.
“Our prayers during this difficult time go to our brother, the entire family, friends and students of Ghaniyyah Sulaiman-Olokodana. May Allah grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss. Allahumma igfirLLaha war’hamha. May Allah grant her Jannat Al-Firdaus. Amen.”
Muslim News gathered that the resourceful counsellor was buried later on Thursday at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos, after janazah – funeral prayer- led by Sheikh Abdur Rahman Ahmad, National Missioner of Ansar-UD-Deen Society of Nigeria, at the same venue.
Speaking with Muslim News, Sheikh Ahmad sympathised with her family, MICA, saying her demise will create a huge vacuum.
He said, “I have known her since she got married about 24 years ago. She came across to me as a wife and mother. She was very articulate, intelligent and hardworking.
“Ghaniyyah was very devoted to her family and very active indeed. She was a clinical psychologist by training. She has counselled a lot of young people and was an avid reader.
“She was a supportive wife to her husband particularly and family. We’ll certainly miss her. And her demise will create a vacuum. May Allah forgive her. May He take care of everything she left behind,” he added.
While on earth, she rendered selfless services in the cause of Allah. She maintained a close relationship with notable Islamic organisations, among them is Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative (HRIA), where she was a member of the board of trustees.
