* As Al-Habibiyah empowers imams with leadership, vocational skills
The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Mal. Abdur-rahman Lekki has called for the creation of a national curriculum on leadership skills across all levels of education from primary to tertiary institutions.
Lekki made the call during a one day seminar organised by the Lagos State Branch of Al-Habibiyah Islamic Centre in collaboration with Ikorodu Division Muslim Community.
The theme was “Leadership and Strategic Management”.
Muslim News gathered that over 100 Muslims including Imams and religious leaders were empowered with leadership and vocational skills to enable them to perform their duties faithfully and effectively.
The seminar was held at NASFAT Islamic Centre, Itokin Road, Ikorodu, Lagos on Wednesday, 28th of August, 2024 with emphasis on leadership skills, financial independence, vocational skills and access to finance.
He said, “We have a preponderance of people in the country who are potential leaders that need to be trained and that is why we need to design a national curriculum on leadership which will entail leadership development and capacity building, among others right from the cradle to the tertiary institution level.”
Lagos State Scholarship Board Executive Secretary also identified poor leadership as one of the major challenges affecting Nigeria’s growth.
Lekki, while speaking on the effects of bad leadership in the country stressed that for Nigeria to escape its current leadership issue, it must prioritize effective leadership which is the foundation of progress.
Earlier in his opening address, the Lagos Coordinator of the Centre, Mal. Abdur-rahman Thabit said the event was organised to show the commitment of the centre in creating a genuine leadership for the Muslim Community through various programmes that support the growth of Imams and other Islamic leaders across the state.
Thabit stated, “Despite being established as a result of their role, the Imams still need to be guarded because there is more to life than what they think. They have so many untapped opportunities that come with their position as Imams which included what they can do to benefit themselves and their congregations.”
While stressing the important roles Imams could play in communities, Thabit enjoined them to be good ambassadors that promote positive developments about the religion, so that their followers can become better through their teachings.
