Reach out to us if Abdur-Rahman Lekki owes you anything, says family

• Lekki dedicated his life to righteousness: Daughter

Family of the late Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Lekki, has requested (that if there are) people with debt claims against the deceased to reach out to them.

The family said this is important, just as they extended similar invite to those who have any of the deceased’s belongings with them.

Lekki died in the early hours of Wednesday, 30th October, 2024 after a brief illness and has since buried according to Islamic rites at Lagos Mainland Muslim Cemetery, Ofada, Ogun State, on the same day.

In a statement issued by Haneefah Abdur-Rahman, a daughter of the deceased, on Thursday, the family called for continued prayers for their patriarch, noting he dedicated his life to acts of righteousness.

“Abdur-Rahman Lekki dedicated his life to acts of righteousness, and the emotions and words of the people bear witness to that. We pray that Allah rewards our father with Jannatul Firdaus.

“Our only request is to keep making dua for Abdurrahman Lekki. Keep him in your duas and do Sadaqatul-Jariah in his name.

“If my dad is owing you anything, no matter how little or big, please let me know. This is important. Reach me at +2348179260971. Same way, if you have anything of his, kindly reach out to me,” she said.

Haneefah appreciated Muslim brothers and sisters who participated in the janazah prayer offered for her father.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in our father’s Janazah and burial, those who reached out with condolences, and all who prayed for Abdurrahman Lekki. May Allah increase His Noor in your lives and allow us all to live and die upon Tawheed.

“On behalf of the Abdurrahman Lekki Family and the entire clan, I say a big Jazzakumullah Khairan.

“Alhamdulillah in all circumstances. We praise and glorify Allah, acknowledging His perfection and expressing our gratitude for His countless blessings upon Abdurrahman Lekki throughout his life.

“Allah (SWT) granted our father the blessing of Islam and allowed him to live and depart upon Tawheed. May Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) illuminate our father’s grave with His Noor, make the Qur’an and his righteous deeds his companions, and allow him to be a recipient of His Rahmah on the Day of Recompense.”

Lagos Gov, MPAC, MSSN, HRIA mourn as scholarship board scribe buried in Ogun

Meanwhile, condolence messages have continued to pour in for the Lagos State Scholarship Board boss.

Leading the tributes, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described Lekki’s demise as a big loss to the state and a rude shock.

The Governor said this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile on Wednesday.

Sanwo-Olu described the late Lekki as a committed and passionate public officer.

He said, “I am saddened by the death of the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, Abdulrahman Lekki. He was diligently and deeply committed to empowering many young people through education.

“Abdur-Rahman Lekki would be greatly missed, particularly by the Lagos State Scholarship Board. I pray that God will grant the soul of the departed eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus and grant his immediate family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.”

MSSN Lagos

Also extending condolences, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, said Abdur-Rahman Lekki would always be remembered as a brother, leader, mentor, teacher, trainer and father.

The Amir (President) of the Muslim student community, Kamoldeen Abiona, condoled with the Lagos State Governor, board members and staff of the Lagos State Scholarship Board.

“This news has left us in profound sorrow. Bro. AbdurRahman’s legacy of dedication, marked by his unyielding service to Islam, the state, and the development of students, will remain a beacon of inspiration,” Abiona said in his condolence statement.

“Throughout his career, he exemplified commitment to both public service and the empowerment of the Muslim community, leaving an enduring impact on all who worked with him.

“His role as Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board was characterised by visionary leadership and a steadfast commitment to promoting educational advancement and opportunities for youth in Lagos.

“Mr Lekki’s exemplary career spanned public, private, and multilateral organisations. His work in public service reforms, management consulting, and development initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa brought transformation wherever he went, earning him multiple Lagos State Public Service awards.”

MSSN Lagos prayed Allah to grant the soul of Abdurrahman Lekki mercy, forgiveness, and eternal rest in Jannah Al-Firdaus.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues, and the entire Muslim community during this difficult time,” the statement said.

MPAC Nigeria

For their part, the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) described Lekki’s passing as a great loss to the Muslim community, noting his supports for their works will never be forgotten.

“MPAC extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and the entire Muslim community on the sad loss of our beloved brother, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Lekki.

“We pray that Allah (SWT) grants him Jannah and comforts his family and the Muslim community during this difficult time. May His mercy and blessings be upon him,” a statement signed by the Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, read.

The Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative (HRAI) also mourned the death of Mr. Lekki, noting he was an ardent supporter of the rights of Muslim women to wear the hijab.

HRAI

According to the Executive Director, Mutiat Orolu-Balogun, “Mr. Lekki offered great insights and encouragement as well as working with us to ensure that the rights of Muslim women are protected.

“We at Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative commiserate with the Family of Ustadh Sulaimon Abdur-Rahman Lekki and the entire Muslim Ummah on the departure of our dear brother.

“May Allah accept him as a pious servant, forgive all his shortcomings, illuminate his grave, and admit him into Al-Jannatul Firdaous. May He protect and preserve his widows, children and entire family. Ameen.”
