… as TMC holds Annual Congress, inaugurates new branches, units across LGs in Lagos, Oyo
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Modupe Kadiri, has identified visionary planning as a key element for the success of Islamic organisations.
Speaking during the 31st Annual National Congress of The Muslim Congress (TMC), the finance expert said Allah (SWT) encourages foresight in planning and thinking about future generations.
Muslim News gathered that the programme which took place on Saturday, 26th October 2024 at the Da’wah Centre, Ijesha, Lagos State, was attended by the national executives, selected states’ chapters, local government and branch executives.
Popularly addressed as MAK by his admirers, Mr. Kadri disclosed that visionary planning in Islam involves not just immediate benefits but long-term outcomes that seek the pleasure of Allah and success in the aakhirah (hereafter).
He added that visionary planning by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) laid the foundation of a just society in Madinah, which has continued to serve as a model for future generations.
According to him, “The foundation of every plan should be a sincere intention (niyyah) to seek Allah’s pleasure. The Prophet (SAW) said, ‘Verily, actions are judged by intentions’ (Bukhari and Muslim). The Prophet’s (SAW) intention behind the hijrah was not merely to escape persecution but to establish a strong Muslim community where Islamic values could flourish.
“Thus, when we look at the seerah and consider Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) visionary leadership, His migration (hijrah) from Makkah to Madinah was a well-thought-out plan. He strategically laid the foundation of a just society in Madinah, which served as a model for future generations, demonstrating how visionary planning can lead to the success of the Muslim Ummah.”
The MTN CFO said planning requires visionary leadership which should embody great qualities including taqwa (God consciousness), shura (consultation), tawwakul (reliance on Allah), sabr (patience), adl (justice), among others.
Speaking further, Mr. Kadiri said Islamic organisations cannot afford to ignore digital trends, noting they must be harnessed to amplify da’wah, educational and social efforts.
“We live in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by technology. From social media to artificial intelligence, digital trends are reshaping how we communicate, work, and live. As an Islamic organisation, we cannot afford to ignore these changes. Instead, we must harness them to amplify our da’wah, educational, and social efforts.
“Therefore, in this rapidly evolving digital age, Islamic organizations like The Muslim Congress are uniquely positioned to embrace technological advancements while adhering to the core values of Islam.
“Digital trends are shaping the way communities communicate, share knowledge, and engage in social and religious activities. This presents both opportunities and challenges for Islamic organizations. By leveraging digital tools while ensuring alignment with Islamic principles, organisations can enhance their impact and address contemporary needs.”
Mr. Kadiri, who said digital technology can assist Islamic organisations in terms of reach and influence, data-driven decisions, and community engagement, warned that core Islamic values must be adhered to in every interaction.
“Islamic organisations must prioritize honesty and trustworthiness. Whether with the use of social media or AI algorithms, content must be shared transparently, and users’ data must be handled responsibly. We all can see how the American-based social media platforms are biased and how they lack these principles.
“Islam emphasises the importance of privacy. Organisations must protect the confidentiality of their members, ensuring that digital tools comply with privacy standards.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Amir of TMC, Alhaji Abdulwasii Bangbala, welcomed participants to the Annual National Congress, saying it has always been a cornerstone event for their organisation, providing a vital platform for reflection, dialogue, and the opportunity to embrace new challenges.
The Amir said the world is evolving, and for TMC to remain relevant, it must adapt to the rapidly-evolving digital landscape while staying true to Islamic principles.
“Today, we are standing at a crossroads, not just as an organisation, but the global community as a whole. The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by technology and innovation. This presents both challenges and opportunities for The Muslim Congress.
“To remain relevant and to fulfil our mission of promoting Islamic values and serving humanity, we must adapt and evolve. We must adapt to the rapidly-evolving digital landscape while staying true to our Islamic principles,” he said.
One of the highlights of the congress was the inauguration of newly established branches and units of the organisation across local governments in Oyo and Lagos States, in what was described as an expansion project.
“For over three decades, The Muslim Congress has dedicated itself to spreading Islamic values and serving humanity. However, we recognize that our presence has not been felt in many areas, leaving a gap in our mission,” the Amir noted.
“This realization has spurred us to expand our reach, pushing beyond existing boundaries and establishing new chapters in Lagos and Oyo. This strategic move will allow us to engage with diverse communities and build a stronger presence across the nation.
“This is another phase of our expansion; further developments are on the horizon, as part of our commitment to a more inclusive and an impactful organization.”
Bangbala congratulated the officials appointed to lead the new LGAs and branches, while charging them to embrace the responsibility that comes with their new roles with dedication and passion
“Remember that leadership is about service and commitment to our shared goals. Stay focused, maintain discipline, and rise above the challenges you will face. It is only through perseverance that you can overcome the trials that accompany this noble path.

Initiate impactful programmes and projects, serve with passion and a sense of responsibility that will not only enhance the fortunes of our noble organisation but also restore its prominence reminiscent of its glorious past.
