• Foundation chair Sheikh Abou-Nolla urges appointees to bring wealth of knowledge to bear

The IBILE Muslims Community Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation has inaugurated her technical advisory and compliance committee.

The committee consists of Islamic scholars, academics and captains of industries who have remarkable years of experience and are also vast in Islamic knowledge.

The committee includes the likes of Professor Abdur Razaq Alaro (University of Ilorin), Dr Basheer Oshodi (Chief Executive, ArthurTrust), Prof Abdul Kabir Paramole (LASU), Professor Luqman Zakariyah (University of Abuja), Professor Luqman Adedeji (University of Lagos), Mrs Sarwi Rahaman (Head, Public Sector Sales, Airtel Nigeria), Mrs Saidat Otiti (Founder Baytuzeenah Limited), Imam Maruf Okusanya (Senior Lecturer, Daru Da’wah Islamic School) and Dr Umar Oseni (Secretary General OICAC).

In his address, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla charged the committee members to bring their wealth of knowledge to bear.

While reassuring the general public of the foundation’s commitment to implementing the aims and objectives of the foundation to the fullest, Sheikh Abou-Nolla used the opportunity to thank the HRM, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Tokunboh Abiru and other well-meaning individuals who have been supporting the foundation since inception.

The Secretary, Board of Trustees of the foundation, Engr Nasir Giwa said the technical advisory and compliance committee is saddled with the responsibilities of supporting the operation and governance of the Ibile Muslims Community Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation amongst other terms of references.

The inauguration which was conducted virtually on Zoom had in attendance Professor Muritala Aderemi Bidmos, who was also the keynote speaker for the occasion.

In his speech, Professor Bidmos highlighted the importance of the organisation, stating how it came into existence at a time when zakat foundations had been saturated.

He lauded the efforts of individuals and organizations who took it upon themselves to be the ambassadors of the change we desire in the Muslim community.

Throwing some questions to the audience, he asked if zakat, sadaqah and waqf can be used to help out-of-school children, if the level of poverty has been alleviated among the Muslim Ummah? What methods are used in the collection and distribution of zakat and most importantly, how many Muslims do we have in the banking and legal sectors? These questions are meant to serve as guidelines for the technical committee.

He further reiterated the goal of the Foundation, which is to serve Allah through diligent management of the three institutions i .e zakat, sadaqah and waqf.

Using the Qur’an as a reference point, Professor Bidmos said “The rationale behind these three institutions is (1) to prevent undue concentration and stagnation of the wealth in a few hands (Q7v59), (2) to make Muslims aware that their wealth is increasing and expanding by paying zakat or giving sadaqah and waqf. ( Q30v39).

“Also, to emphasize the fact that what is given to the recipients as listed in the Qur’an is their right and not a favour. (Q51v 19), (4) to recognize the fact that the wealth from which zakat or sadaqah is taken is Allah’s wealth simply put in the custody of the paying Muslim as a trust. (Q57v7) and to take cognizance of the potency of zakat in promoting affection and brotherhood among Muslims. (Q48v29).

In conclusion, he explained that the IBILE Zakat & Sadaqah Foundation, has deemed it fit to seek assistance from highly esteemed brothers and sisters who have the competence and the right professional expertise in finance and zakat management.

IBILE Muslims community Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation is an Islamic organisation created solely with the aim of aiding the needy and improving the social and economic conditions within the Muslim community.

The organisation carries out its duties following the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, and it prides itself in the believe that all men are equal in the sight of Allah.

The epoch event was graced by members of the BOT of the foundation amongst other notable Muslims.
