The Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCL) has appointed the former Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Oyinlomo Danmole, as President.
Danmole graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Lagos. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, and was called to the Bar.
Muslim News gathered that he is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria, a Member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the African Bar Association.
He was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1983 and re-elected in 1992. He was the Special Adviser on Political and Legislative Powers from 2003 to 2007, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts from 2007, and the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture.
Other members of the exco are Alhaji Salisu Fatiu (Vice President), Alhaji Agbaje Quadri (Secretary), Alhaja Saidat Yusuf Ogunbekun (Treasure), Alhaji Ibrahim Akintan (Secretary), Mr Jubril Abiola Folami (P.R.O) and Bar. Iskeel Lawal (Legal Secretary).
The newly elected president, Danmole, called for scholars and Muslim organizations’ support to tackle challenges bedevilling Muslims in Lagos.
The Shura committee, led by Dr. Fatai Olukoga, said the selection process was completed after two stages, and the new officers that emerged were experienced, active, and dedicated to the ummah.
The swearing-in was officiated by Mrs Wonu Folami and Mrs Fehintola Okunola in the presence of the Leader of the Governor Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Baba Adinni of Lagos, Bashorun Sikiru Alabi Macfoy, Alhaji Adisa Ebiti, Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Dr Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe, Special Adviser, Lagos Pilgrim Board, Imam Shakiru Gafar, the National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, Sheikh Abdurahman Ahmad, Mufti, Conference of Islamic Organisation, Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i, President of Anwar-ul-Islam, Bar. Mubashir Ojelade and members of Islamic organizations, among others.
In his admonition, Special Adviser, Lagos Pilgrim Board, Imam Shakiru Gafar, said leaders are selected in Islam through consultation with people of knowledge.
“Islam does not regard the election as done today, it is not part of the Islamic system because it sometimes leads to disorder and chaos.”
He enjoined the incoming executives to be proactive and provide adequate security for Muslims in Lagos.
The National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, Sheikh Abdurahman Ahmad, beseeched Allah’s divine guidance on the newly elected executive, noting that they are accountable to the affairs of Muslims in Lagos State.
“You need courage, wisdom, knowledge and contentment to drive the course. A lot needs to be done to bridge the gap within the ummah and I pray that peace will reign in your tenure.”
The outgoing president, Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi, sought Allah’s guidance for the new officers as they undertake the onerous responsibilities, praying He grants them the enablement to take the association to greater heights.
