Prof Tajudeen Yusuf’ son, Abdullah obtains distinction from University of Lagos

* Emerges Best Graduating Student from Faculty of Arts

In the spirit of excellence, Abdullah, a son of Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, has obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies with distinction from the University of Lagos.

Abdullah graduated with an impressive CGPA of 4. 92, emerging best graduating student from the Faculty of Arts where the department of Islamic Studies is domiciled.

Abdullah was among the celebrated graduands during the UNILAG 55th convocation ceremonies, held recently.

Speaking with Muslim News, the immediate past Male Coordinator, Faculty of Arts Muslim Student Association, MSSN, UNILAG described his accomplishments as incredible, unexpected.

He said, “It’s a mix of joy, relief, and pride. I’m grateful to Allah for His mercies and guidance throughout my academic journey. This achievement reminds me that with faith, resilience, and determination, we can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. Alhamdulillah for this blessing!”

The young scholar – who completed the memorisation of the Qur’an in 2014 from Khalwatu Tanzeel, recalled that as a young boy, he dreamt of becoming an aeronautical engineer, adding that he was advised to pursue humanities after completing his JSS3 examination.

“Though not well pleased, I embraced the challenge and excelled in senior secondary school, earning recognition as the best humanities student. However, scoring 241 in JAMB derailed my dream of studying law, leaving me discouraged.”

Abdullah, however, said the turning point came when his father, a renowned scholar and a varsity lecturer, Prof Yusuf introduced him to UNILAG’s new Department of Religious Studies.

“My dad advised me that my (Hifz) would greatly assist me. I have always seen him as a role model. He inspires and encourages me a lot. In the same vein, my mom has always supported me with prayers and advice . May Allah reward them both abundantly.

“Similarly Inspired by prominent scholars like Prof. Abdul-Razzaq Alaro and Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, I enrolled in the programme. I hope to meet them in the nearest future,” he added.
