The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reaffirmed its status as a public institution committed to transparency and due process while condemning recent media misrepresentations regarding its leadership and administrative decisions.
In a statement issued by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publications, on behalf of the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, the Commission addressed concerns surrounding its interactions with the NAHCON Staff Union, clarifying that no petition was filed against its leadership.
Instead, the Union only issued an internal reminder regarding certain staff welfare matters, which are currently being addressed, she said.
NAHCON also dismissed allegations of nepotism, specifically refuting claims that Professor Abdullahi Saleh appointed his son as a Personal Assistant.
The Commission emphasized that all appointments and assignments within NAHCON adhere strictly to due process.
“Furthermore, it denounced reports suggesting the retention of retirees on its staff list, attributing such claims to either misinformation or a misunderstanding of NAHCON’s operational structure.
“While the Commission welcomes constructive feedback, it urged the media to engage in responsible and factual reporting rather than sensationalism that misleads the public.”
NAHCON reiterated its unwavering commitment to its primary responsibility—ensuring a smooth and seamless Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
