The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of eight Muslim travelers who were ambushed on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Mangun village, located in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of MPAC, Disu Kamor, the attack targeted a passenger bus conveying twenty-eight (28) Muslim individuals—mostly of Hausa ethnic background—who were traveling through the area when they were ambushed by suspected youths from the community.
“In the violent and unprovoked attack, eight (8) Muslim passengers were brutally murdered. Six (6) others sustained various degrees of injuries, with one in critical condition.
Alarmingly, four (4) passengers remain unaccounted for at the time of this statement,” the statement noted.
MPAC described the incident as “a gross violation of the victims’ rights to life and movement,” adding that it serves as a “painful reminder of the growing climate of impunity, ethnic profiling, and targeted violence against Muslims in parts of Nigeria.”
The organisation warned against the normalization of religiously motivated violence and called for urgent government intervention.
“The deliberate targeting of civilians—solely based on their religious identity—is a dangerous trend that must not be tolerated or normalized in any society,” MPAC stressed.
Calling for decisive action, the Centre urged the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, and all relevant security agencies to ensure justice is served.
“The perpetrators of this atrocity must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement demanded.
MPAC also criticized the apparent failure of government authorities to ensure the safety of citizens.
“The government’s failure to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity, threatens national unity, peace, and stability.”
The group appealed to community leaders and security stakeholders to work together to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities. It emphasized the need for immediate efforts to locate the missing persons and provide adequate support for the victims and their families.
“We call on the government and security agencies to do all in their power to find and rescue any missing persons from the attack, and to provide support to their families,” the statement urged.
In addition, MPAC advised the media to report the incident with objectivity and fairness. “Selective reporting and the consistent underreporting of anti-Muslim violence only serve to embolden the aggressors and silence the victims,” the group warned.
Offering its condolences, MPAC extended prayers and support to the victims’ families. “May Allah (SWT) grant the martyrs Jannatul Firdaus, heal the injured, and safely return those still missing,” the organization prayed.
