The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has announced the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the new Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin Emirate, marking a significant transition in the spiritual leadership of the historic Emirate.
According to a statement signed by the Personal Assistant to the Emir, Abdulraheem Muritala, Ph.D, the appointment followed a highly rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Dasuki emerged as the preferred choice among several eminent Islamic scholars contending for the revered position.
Sheikh Dasuki has emerged as the 13th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin Emirate, succeeding the late Imam Muhammad Bashir Solihu, who returned to his Creator in January 2026.
The Emir congratulated the new Chief Imam, praying for a successful reign and asking Allah to grant him long life, sound health, and divine wisdom to effectively guide and serve the Muslim Ummah.

In a similar reaction, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also congratulated Sheikh Dasuki on his appointment, describing him as a young and vibrant Azhari scholar well-suited for the noble responsibility.
The governor commended the Emir for the choice, noting that it reflects a deliberate commitment to engaging diverse segments of the Muslim Ummah for unity, progress, and development.
He further prayed for Allah’s guidance, protection, and blessings upon the new Chief Imam, while urging the wider community to rally behind him in the overall interest of the Emirate.
Born into a distinguished lineage of Islamic scholarship, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, aged 42, is the grandson of the 8th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.
He is the founder of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Egbejila, Ilorin, and previously served as Imam leading daily and Jumu’ah prayers at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo.
Sheikh Dasuki is also widely known for anchoring the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation Ramadan programme on Radio Kwara and for his teaching role at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
On the academic front, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt (2014), a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.
