Muslim News Nigeria has announced plans to host its 7th Anniversary Lecture alongside the presentation of its annual MNAwards this Sunday, June 14, 2026, bringing together leading voices in media, academia, and public affairs to address pressing issues affecting Islam and Muslims in contemporary society.
The event, themed “Framing the Faith in the Midst of Media Misrepresentation and Global Conflicts,” is scheduled to hold on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Olanike Hall, Shamsi Adisa Thomas (SAT) Mosque, First Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos. Proceedings are expected to commence promptly at 10:00 a.m.
The anniversary lecture will feature the Executive Chairman of the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Mallam Disu Kamor, as the guest speaker. He is expected to provide insights into the role of media narratives in shaping public perception of Islam, particularly in an era marked by global conflicts and misinformation.
A panel session comprising notable experts will further interrogate the theme. Panellists include the Executive Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola; Director of News at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Hajiya Halima Musa; TRT Arabi photojournalist, Sami Shehadeh; and lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu; and Director, Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative, HRAI, Hajia Mutiat Orolu-Balogun.
The discussion will be enriched by contributions from discussants, including senior broadcast journalist at the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Hussain Bin Hyacinth, and award-winning Nollywood actor, Alhaji Lateef Adedimeji.
Moderating the panel session is Nigerian lawyer and co-host of TVC’s Your View, Hajia Nyma Akashat-Zibiri, while the event will be hosted by Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, Aare Jagunmade I of Lagos.
The Chief Host is the National President of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
Renowned broadcast journalist, Alhaji Jubril Folami, is billed to serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
Remarks will be delivered by eminent Muslim scholars and professionals, including President of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad; former Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ustadh Zikrullah Kunle Hassan; Alhaji Abdulrazaq Abdussalam, the first Amir of The Muslim Congress (TMC); and National Amir of The Companion, Imam Nojeem Jimoh.
Also expected to deliver remarks is the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, who is among the recipients of the 30 Muslim Women of Substance 2026 Award, alongside other distinguished guests.
The event will also feature the presentation of the MNAwards, an annual initiative of Muslim News Nigeria designed to recognise Muslim personalities who have excelled in their respective fields and made meaningful contributions to society in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking ahead of the event, the convener and publisher of Muslim News Nigeria, Alhaji Rasheed Abubakar, described the gathering as “the biggest Islamic media event in Nigeria.”
He noted that participation in the event is free of charge for both physical and virtual attendees. Interested participants, however, are required to register through the newspaper’s website to secure attendance and access the virtual streaming link.
Alhaji Abubakar assured that the organisation remains committed to making the event accessible to its audience across the globe.
“We do not want our esteemed readers and supporters to miss out on this important conversation. That is why the programme will be held in a hybrid format, enabling people from different parts of the world to participate virtually from the comfort of their locations,” he said.
Speaking further, Alhaji Abubakar said the anniversary lecture aims to foster informed dialogue on the role of the media in shaping narratives about Islam while also celebrating individuals whose achievements reflect excellence, integrity, and service.
He therefore called on individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies to support the initiative through sponsorships and partnerships, noting that such contributions would help sustain a platform dedicated to promoting balanced narratives and celebrating Muslim excellence.
