* Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i, Dr Zafaran Adeniyi to lead discussions on marital challenges facing marriages 

The Standard Bearers Islamic Organisation, Ife Branch, will today unveil a new book on Islamic rulings guiding contemporary marriage as part of activities marking the fourth edition of its Annual Scholars Colloquium in Ile Ife, Osun State.

The publication, titled Contemporary Marriage Issues on the Scale of Islam: Fatwas on Nikah Ceremonies and Customs, is expected to take centre stage at the event, which will hold at the Central Mosque, Enuwa, beginning at 9:00 am.

The Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations, Sheikh Dhikrullah Shaafi’i, and the Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard Academy, Dr Zafaran Adeniyi, will deliver lectures at the event.

The Chief Imam of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile Ife, Dr Ibrahim S. Bello, will chair the occasion, while the Chief Imam of Ife Land, Shaykh Alhaji Abdus Samii Abdul Hamid, will serve as the Spiritual Father of the Day.

The unveiling forms part of the organisation’s fourth Annual Scholars Colloquium themed Marriage Contemporary Challenges: Rulings and Guidance, which is expected to attract Islamic scholars, community leaders, students, married couples and members of the public.

Muslim News gathered that discussions during the colloquium will focus on contemporary marriage issues, including divorce, second wife, joint bank accounts and joint ownership of property between husband and wife or wives, among other subjects.

Compiled by Dr Ibrahim Kolawole Mogaji, edited by Imam Hakeem Ishola Peleowo, and featuring a foreword by Dr Zafaran Adeniyi, the book examines contemporary questions surrounding marriage, wedding ceremonies and social customs through the guidance of the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence.

Speaking on the significance of the publication, the author, Dr Ibrahim, said the book discusses issues such as the bridal chair, wedding dress and beautification, sisters’ night, wedding anniversaries, gender interaction, honeymoon, imitation of non Muslims and other modern marital practices.

He added that the publication also presents the evidences, scholarly opinions and legal methodologies behind differing views while promoting balance, clarity and intellectual honesty in understanding Islamic rulings.

According to him, the book is intended for Muslim youths preparing for nikah, married couples, community leaders and every Muslim seeking a deeper understanding of how Islamic law interacts with culture and contemporary life.

Coordinator of the organisation, Mallam Hassan Abdulfatai, said the programme was designed to provide practical Islamic guidance rooted in the Qur’an and the Sunnah while addressing modern realities confronting Muslim marriages.

He said the annual colloquium seeks to equip Muslims with sound knowledge on contemporary marital issues and provide scholarly perspectives that would strengthen families and promote harmony in society.

The programme will also be streamed live on YouTube to enable participants from different locations to benefit from the discussions.

Mallam Abdulfatai invited members of the public to attend the colloquium, describing it as an opportunity to gain authentic Islamic guidance on contemporary marriage issues and contribute to building stronger Muslim families.
