The Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun State have endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.
In a press statement jointly signed by its President, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman, Mudhirul Morqas Assaqofy, Iwo, and the Secretary General, Mallam Abdulganiy Sahid Olaide Ezra, the group said it arrived at the decision after a careful assessment of the leading candidates, their track records, political reach and commitment to what it described as socio religious balance in Osun State.
Muslim News gathered that the APC’s Oyebamiji will face the incumbent Governor, Senator Jackson Adeleke of the Accord Party, Dr Oyelami Saliu of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hon. Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and several other candidates in the Osun State governorship election.
According to the group, although the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Najeem Salam, is also a respected Muslim, the APC candidate possesses a stronger political structure and wider grassroots network capable of winning the election.
“We have critically examined the leading candidates. After an extensive evaluation of their track records, their commitment to the socio religious balance of the state and their political reach, we unanimously declare our full support for Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji of the APC,” the group stated.
It added that its decision was based on political strategy rather than personal sentiments, stressing that it had nothing against Salam but believed Oyebamiji represented the most viable Muslim candidate in the race.
The group also urged politicians across party lines to shun violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process, expressing concern over what it described as the rising wave of political killings and violence in Osun State.
It said the sanctity of human life must be respected, noting that political ambition should never lead to bloodshed.
“We urge politicians from all political parties to remember that power belongs to Allah and He gives it to whom He pleases. Our state must not be turned into a theatre of war because of individual ambitions,” the statement read.
The stakeholders were critical of the administration of Governor Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, accusing it of failing to address concerns relating to religious inclusiveness and equity.
They alleged that Muslims had experienced marginalisation under the current administration despite the governor’s public identification with Islam during his election campaign.
The group argued that its position was not an opposition to Christian political leadership but a call for fairness and equitable representation.
According to the stakeholders, Muslims had historically supported Christian candidates in Osun State whenever circumstances demanded, citing the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola as an example.
They, however, said they could not support what they described as another Christian Christian ticket in the forthcoming election, insisting that the Muslim community deserved fair political representation.
The group further raised concerns over what it described as the treatment of Muslims in some institutions associated with the Adeleke family and called for greater respect for religious freedom and inclusiveness.
It appealed to members of the Muslim community and other residents of the state who believe in equity and justice to support Oyebamiji at the polls.
