The Lagos State Muslim Community (LSMC) has called on the gubernatorial candidates in the 2019 general elections to allow Muslim students in state-owned schools use the Hijab without molestation.
The President of the LSMC, Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi made the call today, Monday, January 7 during an interactive session with the governorship candidates of Lagos State at the Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
He said the demand for the Hijab in the state-owned schools might be a major criteria among others for supporting any political party seeking the Muslims’ votes.
Prof Gbadamosi, who led Muslim dignitaries during the session told the gubernatorial candidates that willing students in government owned schools must be allowed to use the Hijab without assault from religious zealots.
He however added that such Hijabs must conform with the schools’ standards and adopted school uniforms.
According to him, “more importantly, as we are still waiting for the Supreme Court judgment, we appreciate the Lagos State Government’s decision to uphold the Appeal Court ruling on the Hijab. However, the decision has not yet been implemented in schools as the Tutor-Generals have refused to pass on the circular instructing the implementation”.
