Former Imam, Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Ali Sabuni dies, aged 91

Renowned Syrian scholar and former Guest Imam of Masjid Al Haram, Makkah, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Sabuni has returned to Allah.

Muslim News findings revealed that Sheikh Sabuni, the author of many valuable books, including Safwat Al Tafsir, died on Friday at Istanbul, Turkey. Aged 91.

Haramain Sharifain of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also confirmed his demise in a social media post on Friday, saying:

Sheikh Muhammad Ali al Sabuni, former Guest Imam of Masjid Al Haram, Makkah passed away on Friday, 6 Sha’ban 1442 in Yelwa, Turkey at the age of 91

Born in Syria, he was the author of many books on tafsir. He was appointed as Lecturer at the Faculty of Sharī‘ah at the Umm al-Qurā’ University and at the Faculty of Education of the King ‘Abdul Azīz University both in Makkah, where he taught for about 28 years.

In Ramadan 1385 H, Sheikh Muhammad Sabuni led the worshippers in Taraweeh Salat in Masjid Al Haram.

His death has been considered as a huge loss to the Ummah by many students of knowledge, who have begun paying tributes to the erudite Islamic scholar.
