OIC condemns deadly blast at Afghan mosque during Friday prayer

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the bloody explosion that rocked the Guzargah mosque in the city of Herat in western Afghanistan, on Friday, during Jumu’ah prayer.

The attack claimed the lives of 18 worshipers, including a top pro-Taliban scholar, while scores sustained various degrees of injury.

In a press release issued on Friday by the OIC General Secretariat and sent to Muslim News via email, the organisation vehemently deplores the blast, the latest in a recent string of lethal bombings and suicide attacks.

The Organisation expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and extended its genuine wishes to the injured for a full and speedy recovery.

OIC also renewed its resolute solidarity with Afghanistan and its long-suffering people.

Though the security environment has admittedly improved over recent months, the OIC General Secretariat pointed out, “it remains gravely concerned that sporadic attacks and explosions in various provinces across the country continue to mar the security and social peace of Afghan people”, it added.
