WHD 2025: Muslim women welcome Gaza ceasefire, push for permanent solutions

Nigerian women under the aegis of Coalition of Muslim Women Groups in Nigeria has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.

The ceasefire comes after 15 months of Israeli genocidal war in besieged Gaza, which claimed the lives of 47,000 people, most of them women and children, since 7th October 2023.

Hajia Balqis Abdullah, the Amirah of Al-Mu’minaat, Lagos State chapter, speaking on behalf of 18 female Muslim bodies at the 2025 World Hijab Day press conference held on Wednesday, 29th January at Lagos Secretariat Mosque Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, called on the international community to work more on a permanent solution to guarantee the rights of freedom of Palestinians.

Hajia Abdullah said, “Our freedom is not complete without the freedom of Palestinians. Muslim women and children in Palestine for the last year have face genocide, destruction and loss of lives. While the ceasefire is a welcomed development, we hope the international community will work out a more permanent solution to guarantee the rights and freedom for all.”

Muslim News gathered that the hijab rights advocates and organisations showed solidarity with the people of Palestine at the World Hijab Day programme held on Saturday, 1st February at the same venue.

It attracted thousands of Muslim women, including students from primary and secondary schools, as well as higher institutions.

They were seen by our correspondent Displaying the Palestinian and Nigerian flags and Hijab rights’ placards, as they chanted Long Live Gaza, Long Live Palestine, My Hijab, My Rights, repeatedly.
