The Forum of State Coordinators of Musabaqah (FOSCOM) has condemned the recent suicide bombing at Gamboru Jumaat Mosque in Borno State, describing it as a tragic contrast to the atmosphere of peace and unity witnessed during the recently concluded 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Maiduguri.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kabri (Taraba State Coordinator), and Secretary, Asiwaju Kamal’deen Akintunde, Esq. (Ogun State Coordinator), the forum expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Borno State.
“We are in deep sorrow and sympathy over this unfortunate incident,” the statement read. “Coming just days after the peaceful and spiritually uplifting ten-day Qur’anic competition, this attack is a painful reminder of the challenges the state still faces. However, we refuse to let it overshadow the success of the event or the resilience of the people.”
The Forum lauded Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his courage and commitment in hosting the national competition despite security concerns, noting that the event showcased Borno’s enduring spirit and its historic role as a centre of Islamic scholarship.
FOSCOM reaffirmed the Nigerian Muslim community’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Borno, praying for peace, healing for the bereaved, and continued strength for the state.
“The bond of brotherhood built during the Musabaqah remains unbroken. We pray for Allah’s mercy on the victims and ask Him to restore lasting peace to Borno and the entire nation,” the statement concluded.
