* Says accusation baseless, meant to mislead the public
Türkiye has condemned the recent strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, as well as Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Gulf countries, and called for urgent efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed deep concern over the developments, saying the US-Israeli strikes violate Iran’s sovereignty and threaten regional peace.
“We are deeply saddened and concerned by the attacks by the United States and Israel, which began due to Netanyahu’s provocations against our neighbor Iran,” Erdogan said, adding that the strikes endanger “the peace of the friendly and brotherly Iranian people.”
At the same time, he criticized Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Gulf countries, describing them as unacceptable regardless of the reasons behind them.
“If common sense and reason do not prevail, and if diplomacy is not given space, our region risks being drawn into a ring of fire,” he warned.
Erdogan pledged that Türkiye would continue efforts to help secure a ceasefire and support a peaceful and balanced resolution, noting that the current escalation stems from a deep crisis of trust between the parties.
Meanwhile, Türkiye firmly rejected claims circulating on social media alleging that Ankara supported the joint US-Israel attacks on Iran.
In a statement shared on NSosyal, Türkiye’s Center for Combating Disinformation said such allegations are “entirely unfounded and constitute disinformation aimed at misleading the public.”
The center stressed that Türkiye does not permit any of its air, land, or maritime assets, including its airspace, to be used for operational purposes in any conflict to which it is not a party, in line with its core foreign and security policy principles.
It emphasized that Türkiye’s sovereign rights over its territory and jurisdiction areas are “full and indisputable,” and that all activities are conducted strictly under national security assessments and the supervision of competent authorities.
The center also dismissed separate social media claims alleging illegal crossings from the Iranian border into Türkiye, saying the images being circulated were old footage of unknown time and place, deliberately reshared to create public concern.
“Türkiye’s border security is maintained uninterruptedly on a 24/7 basis through multi-layered systems,” the statement said, urging the public to rely only on official sources.
The United States and Israel announced a joint operation against Iranian targets, citing security threats posed by the Iranian regime.
The strikes come amid ongoing diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman, with the latest round held in Geneva.
