The calligraphy exhibition is one of the cultural initiatives of the Yunus Emre Institute aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening cultural ties between Nigeria and Türkiye.

A vibrant display of Islamic art and cultural engagement took centre stage as the Yunus Emre Institute, in collaboration with the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, hosted a special calligraphy exhibition and talk programme at the Abuja Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre.

The event, held on April 28, 2026, showcased distinguished calligraphic works from both Türkiye and Nigeria, celebrating the rich artistic heritage and spiritual depth of Islamic calligraphy.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, and Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nigeria, Amb. Mehmet Poroy. Also present was Coordinator of the cultural centre, Mr. Fatih Erkin Mahdum, alongside leading Nigerian artists, religious leaders, public officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and media representatives.

Organisers said the programme aimed to highlight the universal aesthetic values of Islamic calligraphy while fostering deeper cultural understanding between nations. The exhibition also provided a platform for dialogue on the role of art in promoting peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Participants emphasised the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations, noting that initiatives such as the exhibition help to build lasting connections between peoples and institutions.

The gathering was widely regarded as a significant step toward enhancing intercultural cooperation and reinforcing the growing ties between Nigeria and Türkiye, with stakeholders expressing optimism that such artistic engagements will continue to deepen friendship and collaboration between both countries.
