The Osmanoğlu Association, chaired by Orhan Osmanoğlu, a descendant of Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II, has inaugurated a new educational facility known as the Hamidiye School in Gaza.
The opening ceremony was marked with symbolic displays, including portrait of Sultan Abdülhamid II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which were placed inside the school premises.
According to Turkish media reports including Yeni Şafak, the initiative is part of the association’s humanitarian and educational support efforts aimed at assisting communities in Gaza amid ongoing hardship in the region.
The project reflects continued interest among some Turkish civil and heritage groups in reviving historical Ottoman-era ties and symbolic references connected to Palestine.
The Osmanoğlu family has been involved in various charitable and cultural initiatives, often highlighting historical Ottoman connections to the region, particularly through educational and humanitarian programmes.

The presence of portrait of Sultan Abdülhamid II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Hamidiye School in Gaza carried strong symbolic significance during the inauguration ceremony.
Muslim News gathered that the display of both personalities in the portrait is a symbolic bridge between past and present-linking Ottoman historical influence with contemporary Turkish political and humanitarian involvement in Gaza, Palestine.
The image of Sultan Abdülhamid II, the late Ottoman ruler, reflects historical ties often associated with the Ottoman era’s connection to Jerusalem and broader Palestine. On the other hand, the portrait of President Erdoğan represents modern Turkey’s political stance and humanitarian engagement with Gaza and the Palestinian cause.
President Erdoğan is widely associated with vocal diplomatic support and relief efforts directed toward Palestinians in international forums.
Under his leadership, Turkiye has increased humanitarian and development support for Palestinians through agencies such as Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which has funded restoration projects, social services, and infrastructure in Palestinian territories, including areas around Jerusalem.
Turkiye has also been active diplomatically. Following major tensions in Jerusalem, President Erdoğan has called for emergency meetings of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to coordinate Muslim world responses, particularly on issues related to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
