Fountain University honours Muslim News Publisher with ‘Muslim Media Rights’ Award

The Department of Mass Communication, Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, has honoured the Publisher of Muslim News Nigeria, Mallam Rasheed Abubakar with the Muslim Media Rights Award for his outstanding and innovative contributions to the ‘Muslim media Rights in Nigeria’.

The plaque bestowing the honour was presented to him by the Head of Department (HOD), Mr Kamoru Salaudeen on Thursday after a 2-day lecture series organised for Mass Communication students.

Mallam Abubakar, a columnist with Daily Independent Newspaper also at the event, sensitised the fresh students on the topic ‘Media Entrepreneurship: Where the journey begins.’

He later held another session with the 300 level students on ‘Muslims, Media and the Rest of the World.’

Rasheed Abubakar is a believer in ethical journalism which is in tune with Islamic doctrine of fairness and collective good.

This has led to his regular and in-depth analyses of how Islam and Muslims are being reported in the media.

As a result, Mallam Abubakar has authored ‘Islam and the Media, Series 1-4, titled: Muslims and the Threats of the Media (2009/2015 edited version), Hijab and the Nigerian Press  (2016), Media Narratives of Muslims in Nigeria: Facts and Fallacies (2018) and Islam and Modern Vices: Issues and Concerns in the News (2018).

He is  the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rawshield PR Media, a Lagos-based outfit that renders cutting edge media services to Muslim organisation’s, major brands, corporate bodies, members of the political class, celebrities and so on.
