The much awaited annual programme of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, tagged “Iftar 5000”, will hold tomorrow, Thursday, May 16, and organisers say no fewer than five thousand Muslim faithful are expected to attend the Iftar, which is billed to be one of the biggest gatherings in the month of Ramadan.
Holding at the Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, Southwest Nigeria, Iftar 5000 would commence immediately after Solat Asr (by 4pm) with the Tafsir of Suratul A’raaf, verses 54 – 58 by Ustadh Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Azhary, with the topic, “Entrenching Mercy through Mercy”.
Muslim News gathered that a special prayer session will also be held for Nigeria as a nation, which has been faced with security challenges like never before. The climax of the event will see thousands of Muslim brothers, sisters, students and the working class break the fast together, at the same venue and the same time.
Speaking on the essence of the Iftar programme, the Amir of MSSN Lagos, Dr Saheed Ashafa said the Iftar intends to inculcate the culture of charity, welfarism and love in the Muslims, while urging them to imbibe welfarism and good neighbourliness in their daily relations with people.
“The Iftar programme also features a special prayer session tagged ‘Prayer for the Nation’, where the 5000 Muslim worshippers will jointly supplicate for sustainable peace and unity in Nigeria,” Dr Ashafa added.
