The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Muslim News editorial adviser and seasoned journalist, Alhaji Rafiu Ajakaye as his Chief Press Secretary (CPS).
The Governor also announced the appointment of Aminu Adisa Logun and Mamman Saba Jibril as the Chief of Staff (CoS) and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) respectively.
The trio are the first set of appointees to be announced by Governor AbdulRazaq few days after his inauguration.
The new Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Studies and is studying for a Master’s degree in History and Diplomacy, both from the Lagos State University (LASU).
He hails from Alabe in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He was until his appointment the Nigerian correspondent for Anadolu Agency, a major Turkish news agency and the world’s fifth largest, as well as Editorial Adviser, Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper.
Ajakaye has reported for various local and international news media. He has 15 years experience in active journalism as a politics and development journalist.
He worked at the Daily Independent where he was at various times a Trainee Reporter, Reporter, Senior Reporter, Acting News Editor for the weekend titles and Foreign Editor for the newspaper. He also worked on the Politics Desk of the newspaper, and was the coordinator of its Development page for years.
He has contributed articles to various international news platforms, and he has vast experience in election reporting in and outside of Nigeria.
Muslim News publisher, Rasheed Abubakar was excited about Mr Ajakaye’s appointment, saying that he is optimistic that his expertise will help drive Kwara State towards enviable heights.
Mr Ajakaye, who helped to birth, develop and sustain Muslim News as a media platform for Islamic revival, has helped build and maintain the rigorous editorial standards the media platform is known for.
In addition, the contributions of Ajakaye to the overall editorial policy and strategy of Muslim News has always been of immense utility, and Publisher Abubakar believes his appointment is indeed a round peg in a round hole in the annals of governance in Kwara State at this time.
“Governor AbdurRazaq has made an excellent choice of CPS in Rafiu Ajakaye, and I have no doubt he will be one of the shining lights in this new era of Kwara governance,” Abubakar said.
