Kashmir: International Muslim women body calls Modi ‘criminal’, says he deserves to be tried at ICC

The International Muslim Women Union (IMWU) has described Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi a ‘criminal’ who deserves to be tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague for crimes against Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir.

The International women group made this call in a press statement sent to its members across the world including Nigeria during the solidarity day with the Kashmiris.

Several Muslim nations including Pakistan and Turkey on Wednesday, February 5 observed the solidarity day in honour of the Kashmiris’ quest for independence.

The group’s representative in Nigeria and member, Council of Trustee, Hajiah Sherifah Yusuf-Ajibade, who signed the statement said the Indian Prime Minister is clutching the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the jugular and is bent on snuffing life out of them.

IMWU argued that United Nations has only been barking without biting the offensive fingers, adding, “The conspiracy of silence among members of the UN Security Council goes to tell the subtle approval of the aggression and genocidal oppression on Kashmiris, Palestinians etc”.

Kashmir Solidarity Day observed in Lahore on February 5

According to her, “The decision of the Indian government to revoke Article 370 is a phase in the long history of the oppression and consequent aggression isn’t the first. The state of Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of the autonomy it was granted for joining the Indian Union in 1947 by the decree which revokes Article 370.

“Article 370 of Indian’s constitution grants special rights to the Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir. This include the right to its own constitution and autonomy to make laws on all matters except defense, communications and foreign affairs.

“Since the decree was passed, the region had been under lockdown. 15 million people of Kashmir were under curfew for two weeks. One million Indian Army suppressed them in all ways. They killed, tortured, kidnapped, raped, arrested and detained innocent Kashmiris. The region has been turned into an open jail,” she added.

The Muslim Women group commended the efforts of the Gambia government led by Adama Barrow at the ICC for standing against the genocide and oppression of Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.

Recall that President Adama Barrow emerged as Muslim News Nigeria’s 4th Global Muslim Personality of the Year 2019 for standing against the oppression of Muslims across the world while fostering unity.

Hajiah Yusu-Ajibade said, “Gambia stood against the subjugation and genocide of the Rohingya Muslims of Rakhine State in Myanmar. In particular, Gambian Justice Minister, Abubacarr Tambadou who stood to make a case in the face of the likelihood of being hunted and clamped by the world powers deserves an award for being passionate against oppression and genocidal aggression of Aung San Suu Kyi and her government.

“IMWU as an advocate for fairness and wellness of Muslim women and her family, demands that Modi must be dragged to the ICC to answer for his crimes while the UN enforce peace and justice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and indeed to all such people around the world,” she added.
