Diriliş: Ertuğrul: The perfect TV Series for Nigerian Muslims stuck at home in this era of coronavirus

The world is still grappling with the Coronavirus pandemic as it continues to affect negatively, many countries across the globe.

While no new case has been recorded in Wuhan, China where the fast spreading disease originated, quite a number of other affected countries including Nigeria are recording new cases on a daily basis.

As a preventive measure, schools, public offices, businesses etc have shut down and public gatherings of over 50 people have been suspended in many States in Nigeria.

Muslim News Islamtainment checks showed that the Lagos bubbling weekend lifestyles and many religious and social functions including malls, bars, clubs and cinemas will be greatly affected.

As people adhere to the stay at home advisory/directive issued by the Federal Government, Muslim News Islamtainment suggest  ‘Diriliş: Ertuğrul’, a Turkish flawless and perfect work of art that could bring the family together and enjoy an unforgettable weekend.

Diriliş: Ertuğrul, meaning ‘Resurrection: Ertuğrul’ in English is a Turkish historical and adventure television series created by Mehmet Bozdağ, starring Engin Altan Düzyatan in the namesake leading role. It was filmed in Riva, a village in Beykoz, Turkey.

The TV series has gained sweeping popularity in the Middle East and, surprisingly, in South America. The lovers of cinemas in South Africa were thrilled by the beautifully flawless storyline behind the soap, with 1 to 5 seasons and 150 episodes.

Shot in Arabic and Turkish, the movie, which first premiered on Turkish national television network, owned by state broadcaster TRT, has been subtitled to different languages including English and Urdu.

Muslim News Islamtainment learnt that the Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan recently ordered that all five seasons, which are available on YouTube, should be dubbed in Urdu to make it easier for the general public to watch and understand.

Often described as a Turkish ‘Game of Thrones,’ the series is set in 13th century Anatolia and tells the story of the lead-up to the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. The show brings to life the struggle of Ertuğrul Gazi, the father of the empire’s first leader Osman I.

Cutting across the social divide, the series is praised for its plot, high quality production value, talented actors and perfect direction.

Former cricketer Shahid Afridi told Turkish ‘s Anadolu Agency (AA) that the series has brought history to his living room, adding,

‘Watching the Turkish series “Diriliş: Ertuğrul,” I am overwhelmed by the achievements and victories that came as a result of their faith and the empire of justice which they were able to establish.

Mohammad Amin, a young engineer based in Islamabad, told AA: ‘I have watched all five seasons, 390 episodes, online. Only one season has been dubbed in Urdu, while the others, I watched with Urdu subtitles.’

According to Sukainah Shuaib, a Nigerian student based in Malaysia, “The movie, in practical terms tries to bring amity within the Muslims by solving prevailing and contemporary conflicting issues among them. It also demonstrates how unity assisted the Muslims in the 13th Century in conquering several world powers under the Ottoman Empire”.

Sukainah told Muslim News Islamtainment that the movie demystified the widely circulated belief among Islamophobes that Islam is a religion of terrorists, adding that, It essentially dissociates terrorism from Islam, showing that Islam is a religion of peace and principle.

“I have just started watching Dirillis Ertugrul on YouTube and I am most excited that it’s subtitled in English. What a fantastic movie that captured the history of the Ottoman Empire. With the episodes I have seen so far, what I can say categorically is that the movie, dwelling on historical facts, tries to bring to bare the Islamic religious practices. It tries to revive Islam and unite Muslims,” she concluded.
