The management of the National Mosque, Abuja has announced the suspension of the five daily and weekly Juma’ah prayers to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic which has risen to 40.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced late on Monday, that three of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, and one in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Two of these cases are returning travellers,” the NCDC announced.
The 40 cases have been recorded in six states – Lagos (28), FCT (7), Ogun (2), Ekiti (1), Oyo (1), and Edo (1).
In a statement on Monday, the management of the Abuja mosque said with effect from March 23, not only prayers, the open space markets and restaurants attached to the mosque are also to be closed.
“In view of the current health issue, COVIC-19 crisis, the National Mosque management has decided to suspend the five day congregational and Jumu’ah prayers, gatherings and other activities in the mosques and its environs.
“Open space markets and restaurants attached to the mosque are also to be closed.
“While praying that Allah (SWT) to protect us from this pandemic and guide us aright, we kindly solicit for corporation and understanding of worshipers and the general public in this regard,” the statement read.
